The Imo State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Chief Enyinna Onuegbu, has reaffirmed the government’s readiness to partner with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in promoting good governance and reforms in the state.
Chief Onuegbu stated this when the executive members of the NBA, Owerri Branch Chapter, led by Barr. Ihentuge, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He urged lawyers to serve as instruments of societal re-engineering rather than critics without cause, emphasizing that “criticism should be constructive, aimed at making the government better, not pulling it down.”
The Commissioner praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for what he described as unprecedented support for the judiciary, noting that judges now enjoy improved welfare and merit-based appointments. “Judges have been given Prado Jeeps, and international programmes are now fully sponsored by the state,” he said.
On the digitalisation of land records, Chief Onuegbu explained that since the creation of Imo State, all records in the ministry had been manual. He said Governor Uzodimma’s administration has successfully completed the Imo Land Information Service Centre, which is now fully equipped with modern technology.
“This government has broken the jinx and made land administration seamless. The digital registry will soon commence full operation,” he assured.
He also pledged to collaborate with the Bar in implementing the Remuneration Order from the Attorney General of the Federation regarding Power of Attorney fees.
Earlier in his remarks, NBA Owerri Branch Chairman, Barr. Ihentuge, expressed delight at the digitalisation effort and called for its speedy completion. He emphasized that the Ministry of Lands, next to the Ministry of Justice, works most closely with lawyers and calls for deeper collaboration.
He further sought the ministry’s partnership in implementing the 2023 Legal Practitioners Remuneration Order.
Chief Onuegbu assured the Association of continued cooperation to enhance service delivery and transparency in land administration across Imo State.
